Media Language- Practical task
Working in groups of four you need to produce a short video to illustrate the following technical aspects of your chosen form.
- Editing to the beat
- Choose a chorus of a song and lip sync using close-ups and tracking shots
- Illustrate shallow depth of field
- Pull focus
- Whip pan
- Tracking shot
- Montage editing
- Match on action
- 180 degree rule with over the shoulder shots and shot reverse shot editing pattern
- Lighting that illuminates your footage to high key standard
- Voice over (documentary)
- Post production sound (Short film and trailer)
- Variety of shots angles and distances
The locations used
This is an example of a high key lighting set up which is used to illuminate a person or group of people from the front back and side to create and almost 3D effect but also to diminish the chance of shadows. However since we filmed our video all outside we made sure to use quite open locations since natural lighting is similar to the high key standard.
Actual Video
Peer Feedback
- Good editing
- Variety of shots used
- All in focus
- Had a voice over describing each item on the checklist
- Lip syncing was accurate
- The lyrics and visuals matched
- Met all the criteria

Artist Identity
I have created a representation of my genre through the costumes that my artist wore in the different locations of my video. I decided to have him wear quite dark colours with a little bit of actual colour such as the red checked shirt. I have done this
Moodboard
This moodboard was very useful to create as it helped me to create a stereotypical profile for my music video and helped me think of what to include in terms of costume and props and it also helped me to come up with the character I wanted to have in my music video as my main artist and how those featuring in the video should be dressed.
